Rural changes after World War II in the former Horšovský Týn district
Švarc, Ondřej ; Koura, Petr (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jiří (referee)
The target of this diploma thesis is the transformation of the countryside after the Second World War in the territory of the former district of Horšovský Týn, whose existence is defined in the years 1945-1960. The work, based on the study of primary sources from the State District Archive of Domažlice, located in Horšovský Týn (primarily from the ONV Horšovský Týn resource), the study of periodicals and secondary literature creates a picture of the post-war border district, which had to go through a series of revolutionary changes during its existence. The work follows the demographic development of the Horšovský Týn district, including the displacement of the German-speaking population and the subsequent settlement of the region by a new Czech population. Using the example of the memoirs of Walter Bernklau, who as a German was deported from Czechoslovakia after the Second World War, the work shows what fates the German-speaking population had to go through during the deportation and what awaited them in their new home. The second half of the work is mainly devoted to the development of agriculture in the region, the history of auxiliary cooperatives in the district of Horšovský Týn in the years 1945-1948 and the collectivization of the region after 1949. In the last chapter, the work on selected...
Expulsion of German population from the Znojmo region
KUŘÁKOVÁ, Lucie
The bachelor thesis deals with the relations between Czechs and Germans from 1918 until the end of the Second World War. It is a rough outline of the political developments in the Czech territory that influenced these relations. The thesis focuses on the course of Czech-German relations within the national framework and then moves on to the events in the territory of Znojmo. I have included in my work the memories of Czechs who were expelled from the border region after 1938. As a twist, I presented the fate of two gentlemen of German nationality living in Znojmo until the end of the Second World War. In addition to this, I mention the operation of labour camps in Znojmo and the subsequent transport of German citizens.
What they talked about when they talked about the Expulsion. History, anti-communism and world interpretations in dissent polemics of 1970s on the topic of expulsion of Sudeten Germans
Illichmann, Michael Thomas ; Michela, Miroslav (advisor) ; Spurný, Matěj (referee)
Having expelled Sudeten Germans from the country after World War II, the issue enters the public attention mostly as a part of legacy of the communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Even though research on the topic was restricted in the country and heavily influenced by the communist party raison d'état, the issue remained in focus of many Czech and Slovak publicists, philosophers and others who were forced to flee the country for their anti-communist opinions. This thesis is focused on two exile magazines - Skutečnost (1949-1953) and Svědectví (1956-1992) and their debate on the controversial issue of the expulsion of Sudeten Germans. On the basis of discourse-historical analysis, the paper should demonstrate how the issue was contemplated in connection to political visions, politics, individual experiences, and individual narrative styles of Czech-German history. Especially questions of history, German post-war development, activities of Sudeten German organizations and communist dictatorship in connection to the issue of the expulsion are in focus to create a complicated yet richer picture of the post-war history of Czechoslovakia. Key words: Expulsion of Sudeten Germans from Czechoslovakia, Czech- German relations, Czechoslovakian exile, exile literature, dissent, Charter 77

Economic Effects of Germans' Expulsion from Czechoslovakia Revisited
Kafková, Kateřina ; Baxa, Jaromír (advisor) ; Schwarz, Jiří (referee)
Economic Effects of Germans' Expulsion from Czechoslovakia Revisited Author: Bc. Kateřina Kafková Abstract This thesis studies long-run effects that expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia after World War II had on the Czech borderlands. Specifically, the thesis tests sensitivity of prior literature's findings by investigating previously not addressed potentially confounding factors - presence of military areas and border zone in the data; heavy air pollution in the North-West Bohemia during the communist regime; and impact of Wild expulsion in the Soviet liberation zone right after the end of World War II. Minor to no effects of these factors are revealed. Therefore, the findings of this thesis are in line with the findings of the existing literature - the expulsion of Germans caused higher unemployment, lower population density, lower employment in high- skilled sectors, and a lower share of population with secondary and tertiary education in the borderlands, when compared to the Czech interior, that lasts until today.
Reflections by the media on the Postoloprty massacre from 1990
Hegerová, Lenka ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dimitrov, Michal (referee)
The main topic of this bachelor thesis is the so-called Postoloprty massacre and its reflection by selected Czech media after 1990. The Postoloprty Massacre is one of the greatest post-war excesses committed by the Czechs against the expelled Germans. Until the fall of the communist regime in 1989, the case was a taboo, much like other crimes committed against Germans during the expulsion. Although this changed in historiography after 1990, especially thanks to the publications of Tomáš Staňek, the path to coming to terms with this tragic event took much longer in the region where the massacre took place. A memorial plaque to the victims, which had been requested by associations and individuals since 2003, was erected seven years later. The aim of my thesis is to use discursive analysis to find out how the media reported on the Postoloprty

Podzimková, Pavlína ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
For my diploma thesis I chose the topic Transfer of Germans from the Šumperk region and its reflection in Moravský sever weekly. The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyze the media discourse of the expulsion of Sudeten Germans from the Šumperk region and the settlement of this area by the Czech population. For this purpose the thesis analyzes the content of Moravský sever weekly in 1945 and 1946. I chose Moravský sever weekly for the analysis as an important weekly within the region. The first part of the thesis deals with the development of Czech-German relations from the middle of the 19th century until the end of the Second World War. In next chapters I will try to briefly describe the expulsion of Sudeten Germans from Czechoslovakia and the settlement of the borderland by the Czech population. Finally, the theoretical part deals with the description of the Šumperk region and its history and demography with focus on relations between the Czechs and the Germans. The second part of the thesis presents conclusions of the content analysis. The media portrayal of the Germans in Moravský sever weekly was mostly negative and their expulsion was perceived as necessary. Conclusions of the analysis also show which topics were most frequently mentioned and which language and narrative techniques were...

Gročková, Marie ; Štemberk, Jan (advisor) ; Cviklová, Lucie (referee)
For my diploma thesis I chose the topic: Analysis of the problematics of the expulsion of Germans in the period press of 1945-1946. In the first part of the thesis I will focus on the methodology and the chosen type of analysis. Then, in the theoretical background of my work, I will interpret the development of the relationship between the Czechs and the Germans, I will try to describe in detail when the first conflicts between the two nations began. In addition, I will deal with the expulsion of the Germans as such, as well as its phases, taking into account the establishment of the system of internment camps, the decrees of the president of the republic and the views of both nations on the issue. In the last chapter I will deal with the analysis of the press from 1945-1946. My aim will then be to describe the discourse of post-war Czechoslovakia regarding the expulsion of Germans, the attitude of the powers on an international scale, but also the visions of the future Czechoslovak Republic, as it was established by then political representation.
